How to get here ...
... by train
Both cities, Halle and Leipzig, are well connected with the intercity and high-speed train network.
Arriving in Halle, you leave the main station (= Hauptbahnhof) by the main exit and keep left. Go into the pedestrian passageway tunnel where the tram stops are located. Take tram line 7 (destination: Kröllwitz) to the stop “Landesmuseum für Vorgeschichte”. The trip takes roughly 15 minutes; trams run every 10 minutes.
After leaving the tram walk back a few metres and turn right at the Museum for Prehistory on your right, with a small green park area (Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz) then on your left. Walk down Ernestusstrasse until you reach Advokatenweg. Turn left and after a few metres you will reach the entrance to the Institute.
[Alternatively: At Halle main station take tram line 12 (destination: Trotha) to the stop “Reileck”. The trip takes 10 minutes; trams run every 15 minutes. After leaving the tram walk back a few metres and turn right into Richard-Wagner-Strasse. Follow this road to the Museum for Prehistory and left into Ernuestusstrasse. Walk down Ernestusstrasse until you reach Advokatenweg. Turn left and after a few metres you will reach the entrance to the Institute.]

Leipzig/Halle airport (LEJ) is the nearest airport, located right between the cities of Halle and Leipzig. Scheduled flights are mostly domestic flights from the important German hubs Frankfurt and Munich, but also from Vienna hub in Austria.
Berlin airport (BER) is rather near but has only a limited number of international and intercontinental scheduled flights.
The airports of Frankfurt (FRA) and Munich (MUC) are the main hubs in Germany with a plenty of international and intercontinental flight connections.
All airports are well connected to the railway network.
Leipzig/Halle airport (LEJ) to Halle (Saale) Hauptbahnhof (= main station)
duration: roughly 15 minutes. Suburban trains leave mostly every 30 minutes.
Berlin airport (BER) to Halle (Saale) Hauptbahnhof
duration: 1 h 45 min to 2 h 40 min; last fast connection, arriving on the same date, leaves around 20:40 h.
Frankfurt airport (FRA) to Halle (Saale) Hauptbahnhof
duration: 3 h to 4 h 30 min; last fast connections, arriving on the same date, leave around 19:00 and 19:30 h.

From Berlin or Munich take the A9 to Halle.
From Magdeburg or Dresden take the A14 to Halle.
If arriving on the Autobahn A9, exit at Junction 13, marked Halle (Saale), then follow the B100. After crossing the Autobahn A14 at Junction 11, marked “Halle-Peißen” (leave the A 14 here if coming from Magdeburg or Dresden), stay on the B100 (which becomes Berliner Strasse and then Berliner Chaussee). At the end of the B100, turn left into the Dessauer Strasse but stay in the right lane. Exit right twice to get to the (B6), marked “Magdeburg/Trotha”. The next exit will take you onto Wolfensteinstrasse. Two lights and it becomes the Grosse Brunnenstrasse. Make a left turn at the next crossing and you will be on Richard-Wagner-Strasse. On your right you will see the Museum for Prehistory, turn right in front of it and drive straight into the Ernestusstrasse. The next left will be the Advokatenweg. The Institute is immediately on your left side.
