Living in Leipzig

Leipzig is a 1000-year-old city situated in the north-western part of the federal state Saxony and has about 625,000 inhabitants.

Leipzig University

If you are enroled as a student at Leipzig University, the student card (semester ticket) is valid as a ticket to use public transport in Leipzig, Halle, and the whole area of the transport association for Central Germany (MDV) as well. Commute between Leipzig and Halle (from station to station) takes 23 to 37 minutes by suburban train.

Throughout-Germany upgrades for your semester ticket are offered in both cities, Leipzig and Halle, by the local public transport companies (LVB and Havag). For more information on the respective upgrade offer please visit Leipzig Student’s Union website.
