The Research Ethics & Data Management Course 1 is an integral and mandatory part of the IMPRS ‘Global Multiplicity’ training programme. Designed to prepare doctoral researchers for ethical and effective research practices, this three-day course focuses on the preparatory phase preceding ethnographic fieldwork. Participants will develop a deeper understanding of key ethical issues, including ethical dilemmas, researcher positionality and power dynamics, informed consent, anonymization and collaborative approaches. In addition, the course introduces essential research data management practices, covering topics such as data security, data organization, and the FAIR and CARE principles. Through a combination of reflective discussions and practical exercises, the course equips participants to navigate ethical challenges and begin implementing responsible data management strategies.
