Course-Related Credits

The doctoral curriculum of the IMPRS Global Multiplicity is designed to provide a comprehensive and structured framework for academic excellence. To successfully complete the program and receive the IMPRS Certificate, doctoral researchers must earn a total of 180 Credit Points (CP). One CP corresponds to one European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS).

The programme is divided into two main components:

  • The qualification programme: A curated mix of mandatory and elective curricular elements totaling 60 CP.
  • The research project (Thesis): The core of your doctorate, accounting for 120 CP.

Upon the successful submission of the thesis and completion of the curriculum, doctoral researchers are awarded the IMPRS Certificate. This document serves as a formal recognition of the research skills and academic education acquired during the programme. It stands as a mark of excellence that complements the doctoral degree obtained from the candidate’s respective university.

The course instructors by signing for the respective course in the IMPRS study book. In some cases, doctoral researchers may receive credits for courses taken or other scholarly activities performed. Recognition of these external credits requires review and approval by the supervisor, the IMPRS speaker, and the coordinator.
