Interdisciplinarity
This seminar explores interdisciplinarity as a defining feature of contemporary academic life.
Taking the IMPRS’s anthropological orientation as a point of departure while recognizing the multiple disciplinary backgrounds and institutional situatedness of its researchers, we engage with disciplinarity itself - how scientific disciplines have emerged historically and what functions they may continue to serve - as well as the theory and practice of crossing disciplinary boundaries: the concepts, motivations, and challenges involved in multi- inter- and transdisciplinary work. The seminar also offers an outlook on what these developments mean for academic careers.
The seminar is designed around participants‘ own engagement: PhD candidates will prepare readings in advance and are invited to bring in their own disciplinary experiences and perspectives.
